The New Testament by Pastor John Mateos Ong

The New Testament by Pastor John Mateos Ong

How many of us like new things? Why do we need to read the Old Testament when there is a New Testament? Why do we have to use the old when we have something new? Why don’t we throw old things away? The Old Testament is certainly not one of those things that you throw away.

The Old Testament has 39 books. It’s about 1500-3000 years, which began during creation up to the first coming. . Over-all, the theme of the Old Testament is the Birth of a Nation, which is Israel.

After Malachi, the last book of the Old Testament, we experienced 400 years of God’s silence. And then comes the New Testament which has 27 books. It lasted for 100 years with the theme the Birth of a Savior and continues up to the second coming of Christ. The New Testament is actually not yet finished. The Old Testament is the New Testament concealed and the New Testament is the Old Testament revealed.

The books of the New Testament  can be divided into parts. The 4 Gospels portray the life of Jesus Christ until His death. The Historical book of Acts tells what happened to his disiples and the church after the death of Jeaua Christ. The Epistles of Romans until Jude are pastoral letters to the church and to certain individuals. The Apocalyptic book of Revelation tells what is going to happen in the days to come.

Four milestones or lessons in the New Testament are:

  1. God has fulfilled His promise. John 14:6 says, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. “ We want to take so many roads but there is only one way. There is exclusivity in being a Christian. Unlike other religions who have 3 million gods, there is only one God in Christianity and that is Jesus Christ. In John 19:30, it says, “When Jesus had tasted it, he said, “It is finished!” Jesus finishes His work when He left the earth. He did not leave anything unfinished even if His ministry was only 3 years long.

  2. It’s all by His grace. Jesus did not come to earth to give us religion. Some churches are all rules that separate the majority. Ephesians 2:8-9 says,”God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. “ Religion has taught us to perform so many rituals. But it is all by His grace alone, something that you do not deserve. One day when you go to heaven, you cannot say that you did it but because of the grace of God and the faith that you put in Jesus Christ.

  3. God is now in us. You don’t have to pray for God to be wirh you because He is in you. Acts 2:1-4 says,”... We have now become the temple of His Holy Spirit. Paul said in 2 Corinthians 1:22 “and he has identified us as his own by placing the Holy Spirit in our hearts as the first installment that guarantees everything he has promised us.” When we need the Holy Spirit, He is there. We are sealed by it. No matter how strong the enemy is, he cannot steal that away from us.

  4. Jesus will come again. Rev. 22:12 says, “Look, I am coming soon, bringing my reward with me to repay all people according to their deeds.” When Jesus comes, it will not be like before. He will come to redeem us. Jesus saya not to worry for when He comes back He will have gifts for all of you. He will reward everything you have done for His kingdom.

The Heart of the Father (The Book of Malachi) by Pastor Alex Ruelo

The Heart of the Father (The Book of Malachi) by Pastor Alex Ruelo

The last verse in the last chapter of the book of Malachi, which is also the last book in the Old Testament says, “Look, I am sending you the prophet Elijah before the great and dreadful day of the Lord arrives. His preaching will turn the hearts of fathers to their children, and the hearts of children to their fathers. Otherwise I will come and strike the land with a curse.” Malachi‬ ‭4:5-6‬. After the book of Malachi, there was 400 years of silence before the book of Matthew. There were no prophets during those 400 years, therefore no word from God. Malachi thought the prophet hewas referring to was Elijah, but he was actually referring to John the Baptist who will pave the way for the coming of Jesus Christ.

Why do we need to bring back the hearts of the fathers to their children?  What were they doing wrong during those times?

  1. Malachi 1:7-8- wrong sacrifice

  2. Malachi 1:6-disrespect for God

  3. Malachi 2:8-going back to the wrong path

  4. Malachi 2:10-fighting among ourselves

  5. Malachi 2:15-betrayal in the family

  6. Malachi 3:5-oppression

  7. Malachi 3:8-stealing from God

So what does God want from us? He wants our best. He wants us to put to heart all of his teachings. He wants us to give importance to our family. He wants us to allow Him to cleanse our lives. He wants our tithes. He wants us to be humble. He wants so many things that He does not need. Therefore, it should be our privilege to give our best to Him.

The Amazing Grace of God’s Love (The Amazing Homecoming) by Pastor Peter Aguila

The Amazing Grace of God’s Love (The Amazing Homecoming) by Pastor Peter Aguila

There is one question in the Bible, in the book of Mark, that says, “What is the first chief commandment?” And the answer is to love God with all of your heart. If this is so, there is only one reason why. God is love. And because of that, we ought to love

Why does God love His people? Even in the book of Hebrews, the great big question is, “What is man that He is mindful of him?” The one reason is because he made us.

God created man for this divine purpose. If you are asking why you are alive at this time and why you are here, we have to understand that God who is the great creator created man so that we can have fellowship with Him in his Kingdom. No wonder He said, if you are going to pray, “pray to the Father.” And you are blessed if you accept the truth, repent for your sins, and given the privilege to be called a child of God.

God helps us understand what was going on in the mind of the prodigal son in Luke 14. I think a lot of people are experiencing the same thing. Rebellion. In Zephaniah 3:1, it says, “What sorrow awaits rebellious, polluted Jerusalem, the city of violence and crime! No one can tell it anything; it refuses all correction. It does not trust in the Lord or draw near to its God.“  One person who does not realize that he is in rebellion does not want to accept any correction and does not listen to anybody.  Pride is the root of rebellion. And this is also why Lucifer fell. “I can do it. I will do it. I can. I will no one can stop me. This is what I want. This is my own way!” Thank God we know that we walk in God’s way. He is the way! There is no other way to heaven than through Him

What happened to man when he fell away? Where did man go? Where is he today?  What is he doing so he can go back? He was led astray, away from his journey. He is choosing the wrong things!  This problem of humanity resulted in sin which is the cause of poverty, crisis and sickness. The sad truth is God was really hurt when He saw that His creation fell away. I want you to understand how important God made us. God ceeated all things by a mere word. But when it came to man, God breathed on us. Ephesians 4:24 says, “Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.” Man was created a little lower than the angels. But when man entertained the sin of pride, man became a beast, a monster, capable of doing terrible sins.

But thanks be to God and His love. He gave us a gift, the answer to rebellion and pride, and this is His Son, Jesus Christ.  Justl like Bartimaeus who was blind, he saw. Just like Magdalene who used to say I am a sinner, but because of Jesus, I am forgiven. Just like Lazarus who was dead, he lived again. Thank God we have this name, that whosoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

How many of you are sure that you can come home when you realize that you made a mistake? The wonderful thing about the prodigal son is that when he realized this, he came back. The problem was not his father or his home, but himself. Not all children are worthy. But if you know that you have a home in heaven, are you going to think twice about going home? You do not even have to knock. God will open the door for you.

Nehemiah: Closing The Gap by Pastor Alex Ruelo

Nehemiah: Closing The Gap by Pastor Alex Ruelo

Nehemiah is the last historical book in the Old Testament. It is about building walls to protect the temple from any attacks and to ensure the continuity of worship. Walls represent power, protection and beauty. Is there anything you need to protect in your life? Is God telling you to protect yourself from something?

Nehemiah 4:7 says, “When Sanballat heard that we were rebuilding the wall, he became angry and was greatly incensed...” If you go to Israel, you will see that the walls around Jerusalem are made from big, solid rocks. I am sure they were made by man, cut to precision and put in place with strength that we can only imagine. Just like our service to the Lord. We give it our all but when we do things for God to try to close the gap, there will always be some kind of attack or opposition. It is a normal battle like the everyday miracles that are happening in our life.

What do we do when the devil is in attack mode and we are doing the things that God asked us to do?

  1. Pray. And act. Nehemiah 1:11 says,”Lord, let your ear be attentive to the prayer of this your servant and to the prayer of your servants who delight in revering your name. Give your servant success today by granting him favor in the presence of this man.” Prayer and action go together. Always. You cannot pray and sit still. And you should not act without praying. Before Nehemiah even finished his prayer, God already told him what he should do.

  2. Predominate Nehemiah 13:25 says, “I rebuked them and called curses down on them. I beat some of the men and pulled out their hair. I made them take an oath in God's name and said: "You are not to give your daughters in marriage to their sons, nor are you to take their daughters in marriage for your sons or for yourselves.” To presominate means to exert controlling power or influence. It is difficult to lead, especially when ypur subordinates do not want to follow. But we must show them by example and start with ourselves. While there are some who still refuse to obey , sometimes we have to look past that and finish the work that is assigned to us.

  3. Put It Together. Nehemiah 13:30-31 says, “So I purified the priests and the Levites of everything foreign, and assigned them duties, each to his own task. 31 I also made provision for contributions of wood at designated times, and for the first fruits...”. To build a wall requires teamwork. We must learn how to delegate in order to complete a task. In our lives, God has sent people to help us “build” ourselves and “fix” things that need to be fixed. We must “use” them to finish the task He has assigned to us. We must follow through and do more than what is given.

Put God first.  Stand firm where you are called. Get used to God working in your life.  Finish what God asked you to do.

The Book of Ezra: Return, Rebuild, Revival by Pastora Monique Lopez Ong

The Book of Ezra: Return, Rebuild, Revival by Pastora Monique Lopez Ong

Many people have been conquered by a lot of things because they have turned away from the Lord. In the same manner, there are also a lot of prophetic words and promises in the Bible that are slowly being revealed in our time. Back in the day, the book of Ezra was one of these.

RETURN

In summary, the Babylonians have conqured Jerusalem, destroyed their temple and took most Israelites into exile. But King Cyrus has allowed the exiled Israelites to return to Jerusalem and rebuild the temple. He also asked his people to give the exiled Israelites everything they needed to do the latter, which is actually the fulfillment of a promise in Jeremiah where he said the exiles would return to Jerusalem one day. Who in their right mind would not obey?

REBUILD

In the next chapters, the rebuilding of the temple has begun. But not without opposition. Many people wanted to help build the temple but with a different motive. Just like our Christian walk. A lot of people want to take part  of our journey towards Christ-likeness but are really hindrances to our growing faith. Do not let them in and do not be discouraged. The Christian walk is not easy. It is almost impossible without the presence of the Holy Spirit. Our eyes need to be focused only on Jesus. And just like the rebuilding of the temple, we may stop every once in a while, hit bumps along the way. But God is not letting us go.  When the Lord opens a door, it will never be shut. When God says hang on, His promises will never falter. Wvat is God’s promise to you? Wait for it. If God gives you a word and you do not obey, He will send someone else. But if you do so, it will be the most glorious thing.

REVIVAL is coming when we obey. We are made right with God and there is a spiritual awakening  by the Holy Spirit which results in holy Living, evangelism and missions.

God is setting us up for His greatness and for His glory. We should humble ourselves.

We should fast and pre-confess our sins. And lastly, we should yield to God’s word. All the time. Everytime.
